Medical care in the United States has, in the past,
been treated as a privilege.
The U.S. professionals were almost unequalled in
training and medical equipment -- providing care that
was considered -- at least among Americans-- to be the
best in the world. Americans learned to trust the
medical system.
Even when a shift began taking place, Americans trusted.
Yet another 'alternative procedure' that is
revolutionizing the medical field in the U.S., more and
more physicians are turning to non-invasive methods to
assist patients in avoiding surgery, often because the
patients have insisted upon finding alternatives to
conventional medicine and the limitations often
experienced following back surgery.

Was
it a natural path to success? Or has the information
age' brought about the wiser patient, able to do some of
their own research and avoid some of the pitfalls of
conventional medicine?

The
decisions concerning your healthcare need to be made
with YOU in mine. It should be your decision whether or
not you want to establish a living will and your
decision what's in it.
The misconceptions surrounding the living will issue
have stemmed largely from the Terri Shindler Shiavo case
and all that happened in the last months of Terri's
life, during which she fought to survive and her family
fought to allow her that basic human right.
Incredibly, in spite of the valiant efforts on the part
of Terri and her family, she was starved to death in
full view of all of those watching, while strangers --
including children -- were arrested outside the
facility in which she was housed for attempting to bring
her food or water.
It was the epitome of cruelty and an incident in which
the actions of those in charge were so callously
indifferent to Terri's plight that they will be
remembered long after the lives of these officials have
ended.
For anyone interested, it sounded worldwide a warning
that something had happened to America's healthcare
system.
The issues surrounding Terri's death were not the
presence or absence of a 'living will.'
Originally, a 'living will' was to indicate only whether
or not its author wanted to have mechanical means of
life support provided to them.
[Rampant abuses of the wishes and wills on both sides of
this issue have prevailed in spite of a readily
available and simple solution to the issue: a statement
concerning how long life support should be
administered.]
In Terri
Shindler-Shiavo's situation, food and water were deemed
to be 'life support.'
What the average American did not know about her
situation was that her husband, considered by many to
have been a party to her extensive injuries upon
admission to the hospital, prevented her from
having even the most basic rehabilitation that would
have allowed her to recover.
Because Terri Shindler Shiavo was married to
this man, he was allowed to prevent her from recovering
from her injuries.
What if all incapacitated domestic violence victims in
the U.S. were suddenly determined to be the property of
their abusive mates? Would any of these victims --
usually women -- ever be allowed to heal well enough to
face their attackers in court?
Yet that is what happened in this case.
Terri's
Fight, the website dedicated to teaching others from
the horrifying story that was Terri's death at the hands
of the 'system, is a great source of information
concerning the
Culture
of Death that many believe has overtaken common
sense in the America of today. For further information,
