If you haven't heard
CNBC
host Rick Santelli's tirade this week
[which happened last week]on the Chicago Board of Trade,
you're missing something great. They're calling it the 'Rick
Santelli Revolution'
"We're not 100% upside down," Akin stated, "But we
have to prepare for the worst" he said. "The money
from the State isn't coming in in a timely manner."
"We're not in the red yet, we don't want to get in
the red, that's why we're taking the precautions
we're doing right now. We're laying off people,
we're not spending any money.
The recent notice of the impending resignation of
Daniel G. Field who holds both the position of Town
Attorney and Town Manager will leave the town with
neither a Town Attorney nor a Town Manager at a time
when proper oversight is critical to the community.
Thus, the sitting council intends to hire the
services of an attorney on an 'as needed' basis, and
are considering the interim placement of library
overseer Alex Taft to fill the position of
Town Manager. Taft will be resuming duties related
to the library as well, since one of those laid off
was the head of the library's administrator
Akin indicated that the La Paz county officials had
used the services of an interim Town Manager for two
years.
This matter brings to the forefront the charges of
those pressing recalls for three of the seven
sitting councilmen: Ed Foster, Dean Taylor and
Michael Roth have launched an effort to see most of
the council seats relinquished by those currently
holding them.
"We've asked for an accounting from day one," Foster
stated. We have asked for an audit of the
town's books so there would be some semblance of
transparency. They have rejected our pleas and
continued to do 'business as usual' in spite of our
repeated efforts to see them address the issues at
hand.
"The revelation that the town is facing a financial
crisis obviously caught most councilmen by
surprise," Foster continued. "Usually, they give a
blanket endorsement to the spending of money -- but
last night they questioned each expenditure with
every nickel being scrutinized by councilmen. What
does that tell you?" Foster asked.
The recall efforts on two councilmen, Caroline
Guthrie and Wesley Huntley, were rejected for
clerical errors and will have to be resubmitted, a
job Foster intends to see happen immediately. The
third councilman under recall is Bill Moore and that
petition went through. Moore will now have five days
to step down or face recall.
Foster indicated that another recall effort will
soon be underway for Mayor Pro Tem Walter Akin.
Foster indicated that the law currently holds that
Akin run for the vacant seat of Mayor and not allow
the position to be filled by appointment, except on
a temporary basis.
Exiting Town Manager and Town Attorney Daniel Field
oversaw the appointment of Akin to the Mayoral seat
following the death of Chuck Busby, Pro Tem Mayor
following the resignation of elected Mayor Steve
Bennett.
In Quartzsite's statutes, it is indicated that
anyone serving as Mayor must be elected to hold that
position as per the vote of the people. In the event
that a temporary [Pro Tem] Mayor needs to be
appointed, it is to be only temporary. At the
earliest opportunity, an election should be held,
according to Town of Quartzsite statutes.

Americans are
concerned A world of change is
happening around them and most of the mainstream
outlets
seem clueless: that, or accusers indicate
they're simply not telling what they know.
Even in the face of what many have attributed to
'the deliberate
'dumbing down' of students,
[VIDEO HERE] most Americans can handle math well
enough to know that the numbers don't make sense:
and the crash that is happening isn't something
media is properly addressing.
What's happening -- and why? Until these questions
are answered, most of those in a position of
accountability are helpless to respond to the crisis
almost everyone recognizes.

 Ex-Mayor Steve Bennett brought
several major changes to the Town of Quartzsite's
Council meetings, held bi-weekly Tuesday evenings at
the Town Hall.
Among them, the Town hall meetings no longer entailed
a brief three-minute timeframe for speakers to bring
before the council an issue of concern. Of course,
when Bennett resigned, the new 'pro tem' Mayor, Walt
Akin, promptly reinstated the 3-minute rule, and the
council voted unanimously to move the 'Call to the
Public' to the end of the town meetings...
